Fundamental
Storytelling, Typography, Print Design
I was asked to create Fundamental as a senior thesis book for architecture student Charlie Davis. The problem statement of Fundamental is “How can beauty, experiences, and environmental positivity destigmatize the “affordable” housing typology, returning an identity to the occupants and communities at large?” With this in mind this book needed to be beautiful, accessable, and approachable for anyone who may pick it up.
I accomplished this by creating a grid system that mimicked the shapes of the final building renders and pulling colors from the playful facade. I utilized clean and readable typography, and featured word definitions for any architecture specific terminology. Clear hierarchy allows any reader to follow along comfortably.
For the second half of the book I created page templates that allowed the author to drag and drop his information with ease. This way he could make progress on his own time and all I needed to do was give everything a quick clean up before sending to print.
